🪩Always Ready: The Met Gala got us thinking 👔
Welcome back to Always Ready - we watch the fashion world and scroll social so you don’t have to!
Hi friends!
As we’ve been developing our machine learning models, we’ve found ourselves reflecting on how deeply does gender shape our shopping and outfit choices? It’s a topic that keeps resurfacing—especially in light of this year’s Met Gala and a recent documentary I watched.
Traditionally, fashion has relied on gendered categories—“women’s clothing” and “men’s clothing”—to guide differences in style, sizing, and proportions. But as fashion has evolved and the market has become more global and expressive, those lines have started to blur.
The documentary Show Her The Money featured a founder of a body-inclusive denim brand. She was surprised to discover that men loved their jeans too—because, in her words, “they had booty.” It was a simple but powerful reminder that our shape isn’t well defined by gender.
Similarly, at the Met Gala, we saw yet again how tailoring—once considered traditionally masculine—was celebrated by women on the red carpet. These moments keep reminding us that style doesn’t belong in a box.
So it raises a bigger question for us at Pronti: how can we move beyond the binary structure of most fashion stores to help you actually find what you are looking for.
We’d love to hear your thoughts—what matters most to you when it comes to style, and choice? What does it say to you if it came from the men’s or women’s section?
Keep reading for our take on this year’s Met Gala and how it connects to where fashion (and Pronti) might be headed next.
Tailored and Timeless: 2025 Met Gala
If there's one thing the 2025 Met Gala proved, it’s that time travel is always in style. This year’s theme, “Reflections of Time: Fashion’s Temporal Tapestry,” brought out the most creative, dramatic, and surprisingly tailored looks we’ve seen in years. From futuristic armour to Victorian realness, celebs showed up ready to rewrite fashion history.
While the gowns were absolutely giving, it was the unexpected rise of the tailored suit, on both men and women, that really stole the show. Forget the basic tux. This year’s Met was a full-on celebration of structure, storytelling, and style.
Suit Up: Tailoring Was the True Star
2025 is the year the suit officially became the main character on the red carpet. And we’re not talking about your standard black tie looks. Celebs turned up in tailored pieces that felt like they walked out of a fashion time machine. Designers went wild with avant-garde tailoring, mixing historical silhouettes with bold, modern cuts. And then came the women in suits, who absolutely owned the night.
Women in Suits? Say Less. We’re Obsessed.
From Janelle Monáe’s deconstructed 19th-century tuxedo with lace paneling to Teanna Taylor rocking a crimson and grey power suit complete with a floor-length cape, the ladies proved that tailored suits for women are anything but boring. These weren’t just masculine-inspired looks, they were reimagined, restructured, and totally redefined. Rihanna served steampunk CEO in a pinstriped three-piece ensemble with leather gloves and a jewelled walking cane.

Menswear, but Make It Fun
Back to the guys, because they really brought it this year. Colman Domingo, always a red carpet favourite, wore a sculptural jacquard suit with pearl embroidery that looked like something a time-traveling king might wear. Bad Bunny gave us drama in a skirted blazer and high-heeled boots. Men’s fashion at the Met Gala is officially fun, fearless, and full of flair.
This year, it wasn’t just about looking good, it was about telling a story. Designers used tailoring as a way to explore eras, cultures, and identities, turning the red carpet into a literal timeline of fashion.
Tailoring Is the New Red Carpet Royalty
The 2025 Met Gala showed us that tailored fashion is no longer about fitting in, it’s about standing out. Whether it was a sharply cut power suit or a romantic, ruffled blazer straight out of a Shakespearean dream, suits dominated the night in the best way. And the best part? It wasn’t just the guys bringing heat to the tailoring game, everyone played with structure, silhouettes, and swagger. We’re calling it now: 2025 is the year of the suit, and the Met Gala just made it fashion law.
